3.10. Card 9: Calculation region details for region-wise geometries

Table 3.10.1 IREGON PHITS: other means

Value

Description

(D=1)

Number of calculation regions.

Card 9a: Region information listings

This card’s following legacy entries have been deprecated: MCNPTALS, MCNPCELS, MCNPVOLS, MCNPMATS

Each of the following 6 entries must be listed on a single line, separated by any nonzero number of spaces, and this card (including Card 9b) must be repeated IREGON times.

Table 3.10.2 HRGCMM PHITS: not settable

Value

Description

String of length \(\leq\) 10 with no spaces used to describe each region.

Table 3.10.3 IREGS PHITS: not settable

Value

Description

(DP=\(n\))

Region identification number.

= 0

All regions are considered in the calculation.

= \(n\) (\(>\)0)

Each region \(n\) is considered separately in the calculation.

= -1

The regionwise nuclide yield file is ignored.

Table 3.10.4 ITGNCLS PHITS: other means

Value

Description

Number of nuclides in the target material, detailed in Card 9b.

Table 3.10.5 FLUXS PHITS: not settable

Value

Description

(D=0.0, DP= automatically calculated [1], requires JMODE=1,2)

Total neutron flux below 20 MeV in [n/(cm\(^2\)\(\cdot\)sec)].

Table 3.10.6 HNFLUXS PHITS: not settable

Value

Description

File name (string) of the neutron flux file (must be \(\leq\) 40 characters); ignored if set to ‘no’ or ‘NO’ (for standalone calculations without PHITS).

Table 3.10.7 VOLUMES PHITS: not settable

Value

Description

(D=1.0, DP=taken from [Volume] section in PHITS, if defined)

Volume of the target region in [cm\(^3\)].

Card 9b: Material isotopic composition listings

Each of the following 2 entries must be listed on a single line, separated by any nonzero number of spaces, and this sequence must be repeated ITGNCLS times on ITGNCLS lines.

Table 3.10.8 TGNZAS PHITS: other means

Value

Description

The nuclide identification number, calculated as \(1000\cdot Z+A+0.1\cdot M\) where \(Z\) is the atomic (proton) number, \(A\) is the mass number, and \(M\) is the isomeric/metastable state (0=ground, 1=1\(^{st}\) metastable state, etc.). An element in its natural abundances is entered using \(A=0\) and \(M=0\).

Au-197m

\(\rightarrow\) 79197.1

Fe-56

\(\rightarrow\) 26056.0

Cr

\(\rightarrow\) 24000.0

Table 3.10.9 HTGNZAS PHITS: other means

Value

Description

The nuclide identification string. It is structured as the elemental symbol (1 or 2 characters), a connecting hyphen (-), the atomic number, and a single character denoting the isomeric/metastable state, all with no spaces. The ground, first, and second isomeric states are denoted with the characters ‘g’, ‘m’, and ‘n’ respectively; omission of the isomeric state assumes ground state. An elemental symbol used alone implies use of its natural isotopic abundances.

Examples

Au-197m, Fe-56, W-185g, Fe, Cr

\(^*\)Only one of these two values should be provided to identify each nuclide/element.

Table 3.10.10 TGNNDS PHITS: other means

Value

Description

Atomic number density of the target nuclide/element.

\(>\) 0

Atomic number density of nuclide/element in [10\(^{24}\) atoms/cm\(^3\)].

\(<\) 0

Mass density in [g/cm\(^3\)] of the element [2] specified in (H)TGNZAS.

= -999

The element’s density at room temperature is used.
