JENDL-5(ACE-J50) Library (Last update 2024/4/18)

The JENDL-5 (ACE-J50) library that can be used in PHITS after version 3.34 is available from this page. The library itself is the same as the latest version ACE-J50 released by the Reactor Physics and Thermal-Hydraulics Research Group of JAEA, but the address file (xsdir) is adjusted specifically for PHITS and the file compression format is different. A dedicated installer, which can be used to automatically perform everything from downloading to configuration, is also available in the PHITS package after version 3.34. Note that the libraries are located in the server of Kyushu university.

Automatic download and setup (recommended)
Please double-click the installer (jendl5_setup_win.exe for Windows and jendl5_setup_mac_lin.sh for Mac&Linux) included in phits/XS folder, and select the libraries you want to use in PHITS. If the intaller does not exist, you have to update PHITS or check your anti-virus program whether they are quarantined or not. The installer performs the following steps:
  1. Download and extract the selected JENDL-5 compressed data (7zip format).
  2. Add the address information of the newly downloaded data to the specified xsdir file. In this case, JENDL-5 is used in prior to other libraries for all nuclides because it is appended before the information of JENDL-4 (on the line above). Also, JENDL-5 data (data/natural_abundance_20c.dat) will be used for natural element expansions.


Manual download and setup
To download each library individually, please use the links below. All of the files are compressed in 7zip format, so you will need to install the 7zip software in order to extract them in Windows. Also, address files (xsdir) are included in the compressed files. Please copy all lines written in xsdir and paste them to data/xsdir.jnd. If you want to give priority to JENDL-5 over JENDL-4, make sure that the paste destination is above the information about JENDL-4 (*.50c) in xdir.jnd.

  • proton.7z: proton (E < 200 MeV) (suffix ID = 20h), 6.9 GB
  • deuteron.7z: deuteron (E < 100 MeV/n) (suffix ID = 20o), 76 MB
  • alpha.7z: alpha particle (E < 3.75 MeV/n) (suffix ID = 20a), 20 MB
Photon library
  • photo-nuclear.7z: photo-nuclear reaction (E < 200 MeV) (suffix ID = 20u), 834 MB
  • photo-atomic.7z: photo-atomic reaction (E < 100 GeV) (suffix ID = 20p), 20 MB
Thermal Scattering Law data (TSL)
The details of the TSL data (temperature, material name, suffix ID, and so on) are written in
the TSL data list.

  • d2o.7z: D2O (D in D2O/O in D2O), 1.3 GB
  • be.7z: Be and BeO, 930 MB
  • grph.7z: Graphite, 927 MB
  • poly.7z: Polyethylene (H in CH2), 258 MB
  • ch.7z: CxHx (C, H, O in Benzen, Ethanol, Mesitylene, M-Xylene, Toluene, Triphenylmethane, etc.), 4.3 GB
  • cold.7z: Para H, Ortho H, Para D, Ortho D, 681 MB
  • yh2.7z: YH2 (Y in YH2, H in YH2), 1.7 GB
  • zrh.7z: ZrH (Zr in ZrH, H in ZrH), 1.2 GB
